On Monday morning, the fashion world rejoiced as Phoebe Philo announced she is returning to fashion, starting her own fashion label after a three year hiatus. Phoebe Philo, the former creative director of Celine of ten years, revolutionized the fashion industry with her designs. Before Philo started working for Celine in 2008, the brand was ran by Micheal Kors. At the time, like most other fashion brands, Celine was much flashier, featuring bright colors and shiny fabrics (shown below).

When Phoebe Philo became the Creative Director of the brand in 2008, she decided to take a minimalistic approach to the runway. In a world where fringe boots and babydoll tops were trendy, this was ground breaking.

"I just thought I'd clean it up. Make it strong and powerful—a kind of contemporary minimalism,"- Philo on changing the look of Celine.

Philo defined Celine by branding the fashion house with sharp, masculine silhouettes with modest cuts. Throughout her career, Philo was known for making clothes that empower women, making her customers look and feel elegant. She has been a vocal advocate for women dressing for themselves, instead of other people. Phoebe Philo's iconic style is the reason why the fashion world is SO excited for her return next year. With her eye for fashion, combined with her understanding of her consumers, there is no doubt she will revolutionize fashion again.
