Trends come and go, but True Style is Forever

My love for fashion started the moment I left the womb. In elementary school, while kids were focused on learning how to spell words like "island" or "crawl" I was busy learning how to spell Dolce and Gabbana. My life long connection to fashion has allowed me to always feel very comfortable with my own style. Over the past few years, one of the most frequently asked questions I get from my friends is "How do I find my own Style?" or "What should I be wearing right now?" Of course, I can go on, and on for hours about the hottest trends or different aesthetics you could build your style from, but I think true style comes from being able to dress in a way that is authentic to you. When you wear something that you don't like because it's trendy, people can tell. It comes off as fake and unoriginal.
So here are some simple ways that you can make sure that your style is truly YOURS.
1. Make your Own Rules
Today, there are thousands and thousands of bloggers and influencers giving you rules on how to dress. I believe that while you're finding your own style, you should try everything. You never know what you might like. Trying to follow too many rules can make expressing yourself through style, really, really claustrophobic. Take the time to find out what you like wearing, then make your own rules.
2. Drop the Aesthetics
You don't have to have an aesthetic to be considered stylish. You are your own aesthetic. Just because you like someone's style, doesn't mean that you should copy their style. Walk into stores, or shop online and find clothes that feel right to you. Do not feel like you have to consistently dress like people that you have on your Pinterest board.
3. Answer the Million Dollar Question
When you're about to buy clothes, or a really expensive bag, it's important to ask yourself, "Am I buying this because I want to? Or Am I buying this because I feel like I have to?" This question forces you to assess what you're buying, and it prevents you from buying an item that you don't actually like.
4. Explore High-Low Fashion

High-Low fashion is the art of combining expensive clothes with inexpensive accessories or vice versa. This is a really cool way to experiment with your style. So many people feel like they have to be covered in designer clothes, or designer jewelry to be considered stylish--this is not the case. It's totally okay to wear a Prada bag with an outfit that costs less than one hundred dollars.
5. Embrace Change
Over the course of your life, your style will change SO much. It's totally okay for your style to evolve. Embrace it!
