All about the “Bushwick Birkin”

Over the past year and a half, the Telfar bag has become widely popular amongst millennials because of its inclusive branding and distinctive look. If you’ve never seen a Telfar bag in real life, it’s probably because they’re almost impossible to obtain. Due to its popularity, the (vegan) leather bag sells out in seconds.
The brand was launched in 2006, by designer and winner of the CDFA Vogue Fashion Fund, Telfar Clements. The brand was being made with the intent of making every item gender neutral.

Fifteen years after its creation, the brand has been recognized by Xyas Rachel as “a status symbol for people in to fashion, especially in Brooklyn. Outside of Brooklyn, the bag has warranted some celebrity fan fare, from A-listers like Beyonce, Oprah, Dua Lipa, Bella Hadid, Solange, Beyonce, and Camryn Bryant.

The iconic bag ranges from $150-$250, making it accessible to a wide range of people. Telfar bags are affordable, but because they sell out in seconds they are incredibly hard to obtain. The rarity of actually buying a bag, creates a frenzy amongst social media users warranting tons of memes made by potential customers.
The New York Chic bag, gives off all of the modern day Gossip Girl vibes, and totally deserves a place in your closet (if you're able to get one before they sell out).
